‘Bill’ F. Foster
ONEONTA — William “Bill” F. Foster, 58, a lifelong resident of the Oneonta area, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.
Born April 21, 1954, in Oneonta, Bill was the son of Thomas (Sr.) and Elnora (Grant) Foster. He was raised in Oneonta and attended the Oneonta Central schools.
Bill was a skilled, self-employed auto mechanic his entire life and had so much experience with and understanding of vehicles and motors of virtually every kind, that he rarely encountered a problem he couldn’t solve. He was always willing to help friends and acquaintances with their vehicle problems and spent untold hours “just helping.”
Bill loved participating in demolition derbies (winning several trophies), stock car races (winning a stock car championship in Arizona with his friend, Dale Peebles in the 1990s), and watching NASCAR and his beloved NY Giants.
He will be remembered for his warm and welcoming smile, his love of animals of all kinds, the out-of-doors, and horse shoes and for his ever present willingness to help others.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas (Linda) Foster Jr. of Buffalo; his sister, Bonny (Bernie) Kaneg of Milford; and by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He is also survived by his good friends, Roger Barnes, Sue Boman, Randy “Chipper” Norton Jr., and Robert “Bobby” Dixson, all of Otego; as well as by many, many other special friends.
The family wishes to express their special and heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of UHS Wilson Hospital for their kind and caring attention during Bill’s final illness.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes services and burial will be private.
For those who so desire, and in recognition of his unwavering love of animals, the family suggests donations in Bill’s memory be made to Susquehanna SPCA, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
Arrangements are under the guidance of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
