HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — James B. Huftalen Sr., 89, of Hendersonville, N.C., passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2013, at the Carolina Village Medical Center.
He was born in 1923, in Meridale. He attended The Citadel and served in European Theater in the U.S. Army. He received his bachelor’s degree from Hobart College and his master’s from Syracuse University. He was a research scientist for 36 years for Bristol Myers in Syracuse.
Jim and Inez Rhodes married in 1943 and raised their six children in Syracuse and later in Cazenovia. He retired and resided in Franklin before moving to Hendersonville in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Inez Rhodes Huftalen; his children, Jean (Paul) Holmberg, James (Veronica) Huftalen Jr., David (Kathleen) Huftalen, Judith (Kevin) Wolfe, Richard (Cindy) Huftalen and Susan (Mark) Yaguda; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 at Carolina Village Retirement Center in Hendersonville.
