Ellen Mae Bowie
GILBOA — Ellen Mae Bowie, 81, of Gilboa, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
Ellen was born on June 12, 1931, at Gilboa, the daughter of Sweeting Miles and Hazel (Brownell) Kohler.
She married William Bowie on June 15, 1951, in Brooklyn. He died May 2006.
She worked as a telephone operator for New York Telephone and as a paraprofessional for special needs, visually impaired children at Public School 90 in Richmond Hills. She received her associate’s degree at Queensborough Community College, Bayside.
She loved being outdoors enjoying nature, walking and gardening.
She is survived by her children, William Bowie Jr., Susan Kliza and Miles Bowie; grandchildren, Jessie, Sarah, Hannah, Susan Kliza, Evan, Deana, Lizzie, John and Michael Bowie; great-grandchildren, Faith, Titus, Nehemiah, Gabriel Kliza and Lepharoah Longmire; brothers, Miles and Karl Kohler; and sister, Marie Talarico.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Margie Brainerd and Betty Underwood and brother, Lewis Kohler.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Funeral services are 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Catskill Christian Center, Margaretville, with Pastor Robert Englehardt officiating.
Committal services will be in the spring in the Gilboa Rural Cemetery.
