DOWNSVILLE — Gail S. Stone of Downsville, a lifelong area resident, passed peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She was 69.

The daughter of Mildred Pewterbaugh Shields and the late Denton Shields, she was born July 21, 1943, in Walton.

Gail was a member of the Colchester Community Church in Downsville.

Known best as Mimi to her friends and family, Gail loved her family in addition to bird watching, gardening, playing cards, reading, and NASCAR.

Survivors include her husband Jerry G. Stone, whom she married Jan. 17, 1960; two sons, Kevin Stone and his wife, Jackie, and Dale Stone and his wife, Brenda; two daughters, Lori Hale and her husband, Kenneth, and Julie Breakey and her husband, Walter; her mother, Mildred Shields; two brothers, James Shields and his wife, Beverly, and Thomas Shields and his wife, Lavonne; two sisters, Sally Braitling and her husband, Joseph, and Priscilla Staruchowicz and her husband, Robert; brother-in-law, Mike Stone and his wife, Kelly; eight grandchildren, (Blake, Jerilyn, Dustin, Kayla, Jared, Lucas, Stone, and Aidan); two stepgrandchildren, (Daphne and Jennifer); in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, in the Colchester Community Church, Main Street, Downsville. The Rev. Dale Ashby will officiate.

Burial will be in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville, in the spring.
