Karlton Fredrick Maclntyre

ONEONTA — Karlton Maclntyre, 77, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Born Oct. 24, 1935, he was the son of the late Karlton and Elvira (Decker) Maclntyre of Oneonta.

He graduated in 1954, from Oneonta High School, were he excelled in all sports.

He married Edith May Armstrong in 1955, in Oneonta, they lived for three years in Dania, Fla., where he was a life guard and a truck driver.

He was in the National Guard in 1959 and a member of the NRA. They moved back to Oneonta, where he worked at Scintilla, until he went to work for the D&H Railroad as a machinist for 27 years.

Karl enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events.

His special place was at the Franklin Mountain camp that he founded in 1984, where he logged and cut firewood and spent most of his time after retirement.

He was predeceased by his son, Richard K. Maclntyre, and a sister, Dorothy Maclntyre.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Maclntyre of 57 years; six daughters and one son, Karla and Marc Guy, Karolee and Mark Loveland, Joann Goodrich, Dorothy and Randy Norton, Betty and Kenny Shaw, Ruthie Hughes and partner Jamie Shutters and David and Barbara Maclntyre; two sisters, Betty McCrae and Ruth Dennis; and a niece, Kathy McCrae, and many other nieces; 18 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Instead of a funeral, Karl’s wishes were to have a celebration of his life. A gathering will be held at the 6th Ward Athletic Club, West Broadway, Oneonta, from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, with family and friends.

In the future, Karlton’s biggest wish was to have a celebration, with family and friends at the Franklin Mountain Camp.
