ROXBURY — Steven G. Hinkley, 55, resident of Roxbury, died surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.
Steve was born Jan. 23, 1958, in Margaretville, the son of Roger and Ida (Ebert) Hinkley.
He married Karen Lang on Sept. 4, 1981, in Roxbury. Steve graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1977.
He was a self-employed carpenter and did a lot of work restoring old barns. He enjoyed sharing his life of the outdoors.
He taught many young people gun safety. Steve is a 31-year member of the Roxbury Fire Department and served as a fire commissioner for several years.
He was also a member of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church.
Steve’s grandchildren were his pride and joy of life. Family and friends brought much happiness to his life.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Hinkley; mother, Ida Hinkley Sines of Walton; daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Dustin Stingel; son, Owen and Tania Menachemoff; daughter, Stefani and son-in-law, Eric Albano; grandchildren, Ryder and Blake Albano and Aurora Stingel; brothers, Jeff and Mike Hinkley; sisters, Teresa Keator and Lisa Hinkley; many nieces, nephews and many other loved ones.
He was predeceased by his father, Roger Hinkley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra, officiating.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held at the Roxbury Firehouse, Main Street, Roxbury, from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
Donations in memory of Steven G. Hinkley may be made to the Roxbury Fire Department and the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
