Charles E. Stein
DELHI — Charles E. Stein, 91, lifelong Delhi resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at home.
Born Sept 22, 1921, in Town of Meredith, the son of Ernest V. and Anna (Mason) Stein, he graduated Delaware Academy.
A WWII Army veteran (1942 to 45), “Charlie” was a Sergeant, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific and Bronze Star Medals.
In earlier years, he was a tractor-trailer driver for Matthews Brothers; subsequently, owner-operator of Delhi Citgo Service Station, and Stein’s Wines & Liquors, also driving school bus for Delaware Academy, before retirement.
A longtime member of Gleason American Legion Post No.190; Delhi Fire Department, playing tuba in the department and community bands; he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and trapping.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marie (Tuttle) Stein; two sons, Mike (Jean) and Leland (Susan) Stein; daughter-in-law, Nadine Stein, all of Delhi; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Pre-deceased were his son, Wayne (2011); brothers, Walter and Ralph Stein.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 8, Hall & Peet Funeral Home. Funeral services: 2 p.m., Sunday, United Ministry, the Rev Bert More officiating. Burial with military honors, Woodland Cemetery.
