ONEONTA — Alfred Costanza, 83, of Oneonta, passed away on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Elizabeth, N.J., on Feb. 18, 1930, the son of James and Angelina (Macaluso) Costanza.
He married Jean Larsen on Dec. 30, 1950, in Elizabeth, N.J.
Al served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was discharged as a Lance Corporal.
He was a graduate of RCA Institute in New York City and worked as a chemical engineer for GAF in Linden, N.J.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the VFW Post 487 in Davenport, the AARP, and the Elm Park Exercise Club.
He enjoyed Eastern Travel Bus trips and his friends at the Peaceful Flats Social Club where he played cards and called bingo.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Costanza of Oneonta; his children, Al Costanza of Oneonta, James Costanza of Brownsboro, Texas, Louis Costanza and his wife, Audrey of Davenport; his sisters, Vinnie Hodges of South Plainfield, N.J., and Connie Randazza of New Hampshire.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Frank, Louis, Joseph, Sebastian, James Jr.; his sisters, Mary Witkus, Eda Elias, Elizabeth Preston and Carmella Costanza and Angie Iannacone.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Scott VanDerveer, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery immediately following the burial.
There will be no calling hours.
