RICHFIELD SPRINGS — June Grace Sprague, 94, formerly of River Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, Nov. 14, 2013, at Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.
She was born on March 23, 1919, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Dwight and Grace Shaul Brewer. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Richfield Springs.
On Jan. 17, 1948, she was united in marriage with Louis Edward Sprague in Utica. They shared a loving and devoted union of 58 years until his passing on Oct. 24, 2006.
From 1946 until 1948, she worked at ShurKetch, then as a cook for the Welcome Home Nursing Home, and for many years as a home care provider.
Mrs. Sprague will always be remembered as a woman with a true sense of community. She was a member of the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Women’s Club.
To those who knew her they will never forget her gentle manner and warm smile. She will be truly missed.
Surviving are her son, Richard True and his wife, Mary Sue of Palmyra; three daughters, Wendy Yohe and her husband, Warren of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Jennifer West and her husband, Mike of Melbourne, Fla., Deborah Seymour and her husband, Steve of Martinsburg; and a sister, Helen Androski of Liverpool.
Besides her parents, and husband, Edward, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Wilson; her first husband, Joseph True; two brothers, Dwight and Lyndon Brewer; two sisters, Doris Chapman and Florence Ackler.
Calling hours for Mrs. Sprague will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
