EDMESTON — Henry J. Simmons passed away on Nov. 13, 2012, at the Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.
He was born Nov. 30, 1927, son of Ray M. and Ruth A. Simmons. He spent his childhood in Edmeston and graduated from the Edmeston Central School.
On May 10, 1947, he married Ella V Hickling She passed away on March 19, 2008.
Henry and his family operated the Rippling Brook Farm in Edmeston until 1979 when he became a heavy equipment operator. His skill with the backhoe led him to work with The Union Cemetery in Edmeston where he later became the caretaker until his retirement.
He was an avid hunter locally for both small game and deer. There were also a number fall trips to Bingham, Maine, with his hunting buddies.
Many happy and adventurous times were spent riding his motorcycle on “The Edmonds Farm” with the old Edmeston Motorcycle Club and his dirt riding buddies. He was a charter member of the Three Rivers Trail Riders during the 1970s. He loved to play his harmonica entertaining his family, friends and the residents of The Chase Nursing Home. His greatest pleasure in life was his time spent with his family and especially his wife, Ella.
Henry is survived by his two sons, Jim Simmons and Chrissy of South Edmeston and Bob Simmons and his wife Sharon of Edmeston, grandchildren: Timothy, Lisa, Corrina, Jason, Larissa, Shannon, Samatha, Kayla, and Britney, and great grandchildren: Samatha, Michayla, Hailey, R. J., Trinity, Griffen, Kaiser, Marleigha, Collin, Nola Bean,Trea and Hayden. He was predeceased by one grandson, Mike Simmons, and one sister, Ella Simmons Davies.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry’s name may be sent to The Union Cemetery Association in Edmeston or The Heart Association.
Henry’s funeral service will be held on Friday Nov. 16, 2012, at 5 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home In New Berlin with Pastor Jay Henderson of the First Baptist Church in Burlington Flats. Calling hours will be from 3-5 on Friday before the service. Interment will take place at the Union Cemetery, Edmeston.
