SIDNEY — Mildred R. Johnson, 92, of Sidney passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at the Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.

She was born Dec. 3, 1920, daughter of the late Ernest and Clara (Wright) Rathbun in Oneonta.

Millie attended college in Delhi and Hartwick. She married Walter F. Johnson on June 6, 1942, in Unadilla. he predeceased her on Dec. 15, 2002.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson owned and operated a dairy farm and Johnson Farm Market in Sidney from 1949 to 1986. They provided the local area with sweet corn, produce, Christmas trees and valued gardening advice to anyone who asked.

Not only was Millie a hardworking farm wife; she was also a dedicated member of the First Congregational Church of Sidney, the Hill and Valley Garden, BPW and the Hospital Guild.

Late in life Millie and Walt took up golf, at which she excelled and which she really enjoyed.

Millie was a true lady, always the first to smile. She believed in the good in people, never saying a bad word about anyone. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family, which she cared for with unconditional love.

She is survived by two sons, David Johnson and his wife, Cathy, Unadilla, and Peter Johnson, Sidney; three daughters, Kris Chambers and her husband, Roger, Bainbridge, Charlotte Axtell, Franklin, and Corinne Johnson, Fort Worth, Fla.; grandchildren Shari (Fred) Ploutz, Jr. Oneonta, Kelli (Bill) Morgan, Union Springs, Marc (Nikki) Johnson, Unadilla, Luke (Janette) Johnson, Unadilla, Joshua (Karli) Johnson, Otego, Derek (Erin) Johnson, Unadilla, Katy (Diesel) Hitt, Adams Center, N.Y., Dawn (John) Mushtare, Oneonta, Chad (Kirsten) Chambers, Portland, Ore., Michael (Gwen) Axtell, State College, Pa., Steven Axtell, Groton, and Joel Benn, Ft. Worth, Fal; 21 great—grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alberta Rathbun, Fort Wayne, Ind.; her two cats Sam and Cali; a very special foreign exchange student from 1962 to 1963, Fleming Larsen, Roskilde, Denmark; and several nieces, nephews and many friends
