Clarence M. Barkman Jr.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Clarence M. Barkman Jr., 82, formerly of Delhi and born in New Kingston, passed away Sept. 22, 2013, at his residence surrounded by loved ones.
He retired in 1993 from the Delaware County Highway Department, though one would wonder if leaning on a shovel for 34 years constitutes a job.
Junior, June-bug, Uncle Junior, Clancy, Pops, Daddy, Grandpa or Honey (call him anything but late for dinner) enjoyed watching TV (with his eyes closed), camping, the occasional cold beer, farming and deer hunting. He was a shy man (until he knew your name) and was quick with a joke or to cheat at a hand of cards. He loved mincemeat pie, blueberry dumplings and weddings.
Through the years he had numerous families and friends of which representatives will be celebrating his life at the Delhi Legion Hall between 4 and 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4. Clarence would HIGHLY recommend flannel attire for this outing. In fact anyone wearing black or a tie will be asked to leave those articles at the door. The following day, Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m., there will be a graveside service to bury his ashes in the New Kingston Valley Cemetery for your crying pleasure.
