WEST ONEONTA — Thomas K. Greene of West Oneonta, 63, passed away on Oct. 13, 2013, from pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Oneonta on Sept. 23, 1950, the first son of Thomas H. and Elizabeth (Betty) Greene. In 1956 the family moved to Lakeland, Fla., where he lived until 1972, when he moved back to Oneonta after graduating from college. All of his schooling was in Lakeland, graduating from Lakeland High School in 1968, and from Florida Southern College in 1972. He did some graduate studies in economics in 1974 at State University at Oneonta.

On Jan. 7, 1977, I married the love of my life, Laura Becker. She was the rock that kept me stable and I was deeply in love with her and was fortunate to spend 36 years with her. I was the proud father of two wonderful sons, Jason Greene of Seabrook, N.H., and Tim Greene in Oneonta. I was blessed to have two incredible granddaughters, Breanna Marie Greene and Khloe Elizabeth Greene, daughters of my son, Jason.

I want to thank all of my family, relatives and friends who showed me so much love and friendship through my illness; including, Michele Wyman and so many co-workers from NYCM and many in the Hartwick College Athletic Department, especially Todd McGuiness and Nick Lambros. (Yes, I wrote some of this before passing.)

Tom grew up in a sports environment as his father was a college basketball coach and athletic director for over 25 years. Being in a gym was like a second home to him. He worshiped his father as he was his best friend and the only hero he ever had and was fortunate to have been able to see him almost every day of his life. Tom and his brothers, Dan and Bill had the best of two worlds by spending summers in Oneonta while growing up in Florida for 17 years.
