VERO BEACH, Fla. — Susan Stolar Nesbitt passed away peacefully in her Vero Beach home on Oct. 20, 2013, following a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband of 47 years, family and friends who supported her in the fight while being inspired every day by her courage and faith.
Susan was born to Harry and Mary Stolar of Albany on May 27, 1944. She graduated from Shaker High School in Latham, Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., and earned her master’s degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta.
She taught English for two years and then worked full-time raising her three children. She served the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Community as the director of religious education for 20 years and as the lay chaplain for Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta for 13 years. She dedicated her life’s work to enriching the lives of youth in God’s teachings and love.
She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing mahjong and bridge with her friends in New York and Florida.
Susan will be forever remembered by her husband and best friend, Ben; their three children, Stephen, Jennifer and Kristin; four grandchildren, Shea, Kelly, Ben and Emma; and so many loving relatives and friends.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
There will be calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in Oneonta, at Grummons Funeral Home and a celebratory Mass at St. Mary’s Church at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Memorial donations may be made to either VNA Hospice of Indian River County or St. Mary’s Church of Oneonta.
