Obama keeps lying to Americans
Seeing our narcissistic, wannabe World Messiah, aka Barack Hussein Obama or Um, Um*, giving a phony salute to "honor" the 18 returning servicemen killed in Afghanistan almost made me retch.
His godlike impression that he cared for these brave men was despicable. After all Um, Um and the Democrats despise the military and did everything possible for us to lose the war in Iraq.
Since August, while he played golf and pranced around the world, Um, Um has all but ignored Afghanistan and Gen. McCrystal's troop request. Any American blood being shed now is on his hands.
Um, Um also lied when he promised his administration would be transparent, boasting that all legislative debate would be televised on C-SPAN and pending bills would be put on the Internet for public scrutiny 72 hours prior to a vote. Liar, liar, pants on fire.
Um, Um will be going to Copenhagen to transfer our energy sovereignty over to the corrupt America-hating U.N. to save the "endangered" polar bears, falsely depicted in Al Gore's phony global warming debacle, which should be called "Inconvenient Swiss Cheese," since it is so full of holes.
The facts are that the polar bear population is exploding and the warmest year in recent history was 1998. Since then the worldwide average temperature has fallen. To camouflage this charade, Um, Um is now calling it "climate change" rather than global warming, another example of his deceitfulness.
The real endangered species is American seniors. They'll be the cannon fodder in Um, Um's health care monstrosity, when most of their Medicare benefits will disappear. Any senior who believes Um, Um is better off believing in the tooth fairy.
Come on, you local liberals, let's hear your defense of Um, Um.

Planned Parenthood protests disrespectful
Recently, I've noticed a small group of protesters picketing outside the Dietz Street Planned Parenthood in Oneonta. They stand across the street, facing the building, waiting for each patient to leave the doctor's office so they can hold up their signs and shame them. This is just embarrassingly disrespectful.
I can almost guarantee that every person in that picket line has health insurance and can afford to go to the hospital when she doesn't feel good or needs yearly check-ups. Planned Parenthood exists primarily as a doctor's clinic that specializes in providing low-cost health care for people who can't afford to go to the hospital.
For four years, while I was a college student, I lived on a very restricted income. My parents' insurance no longer covered me, and I couldn't afford the huge expense of private insurance. In order to see a doctor regularly, I had to rely on the generosity of Planned Parenthood. So many young adults are in this situation.
Although the protesters are trying to convey an anti-abortion message, it is an erroneous assumption that anyone seen patronizing Planned Parenthood is there in any abortion-related context. To protest so visually, and therefore publicly judge people who can't afford better health care alternatives, is just a terrible shame. The irresponsible actions of those protesters may very well be scaring young girls away from important health care, like Pap smears, which test for cancer cells within the cervix. What young person wants to go to the doctor to have an already embarrassing procedure done, when in order to get there, they must walk past a crowd of judgmental, ill-intentioned gawkers?
Please, protesters, have some respect. I don't stand outside your church holding a picket sign. Don't stand outside my doctor's office.

Nobel Peace Prize nothing but a joke
In reference to the recent letter, e.g., the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama, stated is "it bespeaks hope, optimism ...," etc. Yeah, OK. The president had only BEEN president for 12 days when nominated by this foreign entity, and Mr. Nobel is probably rolling in his grave. When president for 12 days, Obama had done absolutely nothing to qualify, and still hasn't.
In Nobel's will, he left money dedicated to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." Note that the prize requires actually doing something, and not just thinking great thoughts.
Here are some others that have been nominated for and/or awarded the Peace Prize. Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat, Al Gore, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, Neville Chamberlain and Adolf Hitler (nominated in 1939).
Looks to me like the awarding process is a joke, and discredits those that actually earned it.

Republicans have no real ideas
As usual, I must take issue with Tom Sears' column, this one of Oct. 13 in which he says that Republican ideas are winning. The fact is that the Republicans have no ideas. Their only goal is to see President Obama fail, regardless of the effect on our country. For example, when the Olympics were not awarded to Chicago, despite the president's efforts, they cheered, never considering the economic benefits and jobs the Olympics would bring to Chicago.
The Tea Partiers have every right to demonstrate and express their views, but the fact is that they are bitter at their resounding election defeat and offer no solutions except calling Mr. Obama a Marxist, communist, socialist and any other "ist" they can think of, all of which translates into racism on their part. They cannot accept an African-American as president, and want "their country back" in the hands of the white, right-wing Christian fundamentalists who caused most of the problems we face today.
Remember, it was George Bush who first presented the necessity of the TARP and stimulus plans, which were agreed upon by almost all economists, except Mr. Sears and Rush Limbaugh. Once again, Mr. Sears equates talk radio ratings with the opinions of all Americans. Normal, rational people do not need to listen to the absurd rantings of talk radio to hear their ideas expressed.
Our European allies also do not think much of the "ideas' of Mr. Sears and the Republicans. President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize simply for not being one.

Too many drivers ignore yield signs
I am wondering if people realize what a yield sign means? I seem to "play chicken" most mornings going to work, when I travel west down Route 7 and turn left at the light (when it turns green for my direction) to get onto I-88. Many people heading east and turning right where there is a yield sign do not stop, nor do they look. I have been cut off or had to come to a very quick stop many times.
In the evenings coming home from work I have seen New York State Troopers parked by I-88 looking for speeders; why not have a trooper or Otsego County deputy parked near Price Chopper? Is it that speeding tickets are more important?
I don't like the risk of playing chicken. Hopefully, one of our local troopers or deputies will respond.
