Street Talk

How does the influx of college students affect your life?

"It affects me big time. I make more money, business is up, and I work more hours. I generally don't mind it. I enjoy the peace and quiet in the summer, but it's nice to see the town bursting with energy."

_ Brett Burgin, pizza maker, Oneonta.

"My girlfriend is back. She's a senior at Oneonta State and went home this summer to work."

_ Travis Manley, cook, Oneonta.

"Business is good. Other than that, there are longer lines everywhere and everything is much louder."

_ Rob Christian, clerk, Oneonta.

"My daughter got her bachelor's degree in social sciences here. She's been away from school for awhile, and now she's starting on her master's degree here for school counseling. I'm taking care of her son while she's working and going to school."

_ Stefanie Lotey, retired, Central Bridge.

"I'm a current student and am going to be a senior. It's definitely busier at work, there's a lot more traffic, louder and more pollution. In a student population of 6,000, I'd say less than a third are respectful to their surroundings."

_ Rion Welsh, SUNY Oneonta student, Monticello.

"It's always good for the economy. It's hectic for a few weeks, but then it goes back to normal and things settle in and calm down."

_ Micah Resney, maintenance worker, Oneonta.
