In Your Opinion: NIMBY: It's not just for anti-frackers

Spoiler alert: Frackers are NIMBYs too!

The CEO of the largest oil and gas producer in the world does not want fracking in his neighborhood because it will lower property values.

Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson fears that constructing a water tower near his ranch to accommodate fracking would create “a noise nuisance and traffic hazards,” due to all the truck traffic it would generate (and because the water tower would ruin his view). So does Rex’s neighbor, Dick Armey, a former Texas congressman, speaker of the House and co-founder of the tea party (who associates with people like the Koch brothers, fracking supporters and beneficiaries of the XL Pipeline, which is destined to bring diluted bitumen from the Alberta Tar Sands to refineries on the Gulf Coast so finished petroleum products can be shipped abroad for higher profits ... if approved).

Apparently the guy who spent $2 million of company money trying to persuade New York lawmakers to discard home rule and local zoning laws so his company could frack upstate New York feels differently when the frackers come into his community. At the Bartonville Town Board meeting, Rex and Dick argued IN FAVOR of exerting home rule and local zoning laws to keep the water tower from being constructed. It isn’t that they oppose fracking, but rather the accompanying infrastructure and hustle and bustle of heavy industry nearby.

What would our local frackers say if the same testimony were presented to the New York State Court of Appeals for the Dryden and Middlefield cases by these same two characters?

What I don’t get is, does this make them fracking NIMBYs, or NIMBY frackers?

One thing for sure, Rex is the biggest (and perhaps richest) fracking hypocrite on the planet!

Let’s frack Dick Cheney next ...
