A couple of weeks ago I was driving down Main Street in Oneonta at 3:30 in the afternoon, and all the street lights were on. Now, having a little history with the city of Oneonta, I knew that meant they were most likely replacing bulbs or working on repairs of some nature.
Now, I just want to thank the city of Oneonta for the ambiance and romantic setting. Two weeks later, I’m driving down Main Street at 8 at night, in the dark, and from Hess to the police station, I counted 20 street lights out! Twenty! Is this negligence, or intentional savings of tax dollars? I certainly hope that the money that you save from this covers the lawsuit when someone gets hit due to lack of lighting in a crosswalk.
Things sure have changed in the city over the past 25 years. This would never have been tolerated when I worked there; not by management, not by the city, and not by the taxpayers.
