These events include the many activities planned by our schools to incorporate the sacrifices and heroic deeds of our veterans. Otego Elementary, Franklin Central, Margaretville Central, South Kortright Central and Oneonta Community Christian schools were among those observing Veterans Day with special programs for students and community members.
By inviting those who have fought to protect us here and abroad, we are passing on an appreciation for their service to a new generation.
Other community events include traditional ceremonies at the Delhi American Legion and at Neahwa Park in Oneonta, with the American Legion, Disabled Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sons of the American Legion represented.
The Oneonta Community Concert Band played rousing patriotic music at its annual Veterans Day concert, while Worcester Historical Society Trustee Larry DeLong spoke of Delevan Bates and Richard C. Mangan, local Civil War soldiers who received the Congressional Medal of Honor.
