I would like to take this opportunity to endorse the following write-in candidates for these positions in the town of Columbus:
George G. Coates for supervisor.
Michael C. Simons for town council.
Jeanette M. Avolio for town council.
I believe in democracy, as a form of government that is “of, by and for” the people. Of the people means the government is composed of regular citizens; by the people means the government is elected by its citizens; and for the people means that the sole purpose of government is to act in ways that benefit us.
I believe these candidates will best represent the town of Columbus, collectively based on their knowledge, experience, skills and collaborative attitudes. It is time to put an end to the deliberate and negative controversy, and for our town to move forward in developing and maintaining positive relationships with their neighbors, pursuing opportunities for economic growth and working on long-range planning for future town needs.
The democratic process is how we can make these goals happen. I encourage you to take action and vote for these candidates on Election Day, Nov. 5, 2013, to provide effective leadership for the town of Columbus.
