I had heard troubling rumors about a letter sent recently by the Middletown Republican Committee to Middletown Republican constituents. I wanted to see it for myself, and was able to get a copy. After reading it, I was left with two concerns.
First, the various accusations listed in this letter are at best distortions and at worst simply untrue.
Second, and more importantly, the tone of the letter alarms me. I would hope this is not indicative of how we now do things in Middletown. It is certainly NOT how we conduct ourselves in the Middletown Democratic Committee. I would hate to see this become the new “norm.”
I know we’re getting close to the Nov. 5 election, but I urge everyone to take a deep breath, seek out facts rather than opinion and instead focus on meeting the challenges that lie ahead. Civility is crucial. We will all need to work together in the months and years ahead.
Tait is chairwoman of the Middletown Democratic Committee.
