Gun violence solutions don't make sense

Once again we are all subject to the damage a deranged person can do with modern weapons. Solutions to the problem range from additional gun bans to armed guards in every school. Neither makes sense. As was evident in the Webster, N.Y., tragedy, weapons restrictions are easily avoided.

In the case of armed guards, had one been in evidence in the Newtown tragedy the guard would have died first. A guard could not shoot at a person approaching a school without just cause.

Many years ago when visiting a nephew in Colorado, he asked me to shoot his new automatic rifle. Firing a 30-round clip in a few seconds convinced me that such a weapon had nothing to do with hunting or sportsmanship. After three years in the U.S. infantry I knew that such a weapon had only one use, and that was against human beings.

Another issue being debated is whether the constant violence always visible on TV and movies has any effect on viewers. I’m told that in many video games participants take the part of the trigger operator. If what we see and do has no effect on behavior, those companies spending billions on advertising to sell their product should spend money on research regarding this issue.
