'Security' just another word for 'slavery'

I was surprised at one writer’s many appearances here in 2012. Only because I marvel at how one could compose such frequent lengthy letters that consist of little but Democrat talking points and the inference that government should make life secure. And its failure when it doesn’t.

Which brings me to the view of government that I have expressed before — one which I’m surely in the minority for holding. One that isn’t blind to the inherent character of this institution. I’m under no illusion that it hasn’t ever been, or will be, anything but a thing of force and power. And I don’t fool myself into believing that it somehow can be reformed into something kind and gentle.

I even said that we would do ourselves a favor by developing and maintaining a healthy fear of government, simply because in it you will always have a situation where the natural tyrannical and despotic bent of humankind is in a position of authority and power. This is the essence of government, and why we put our freedom at risk when it is allowed to make our lives secure.

But freedom has never meant living in security. That state is defined as “free from danger, risk, fear and care.” But with the number of federal programs and entitlements since the 1930s, it seems security is exactly what we want from our government. Enough to exchange freedom for it? Then the founding generation’s sacrifices to gain independence were essentially for nothing. England and France would have been spared some expense, also.

I’ll close by stating another truism that we should constantly be mindful of: “Let individual or government make your life secure, and you will be increasingly controlled till you find yourself their slave.”
