I thought you would be interested in these two items I sent to Robert Conrad, who hosts “Funny Faux Pas” on National Public Radio.
First funny faux pas:
My suggested headline for President Obama’s foes: “Tour bus sick — President on board”
Actual headline: “Local fracking foes protest to Obama”
Source: The Daily Star, Friday, Aug. 23, 2013:
Front page article by Joe Mahoney, Staff Writer:
Paragraph containing funny faux pas:
“Outside the Syracuse school, the protesters only got a glimpse off the bus carrying Obama to the destination for his speech on education, although Huntsman said some demonstrators indicated he waved to them as the vehicle wheezed past them.”
Second funny faux pas:
Source: The Daily Star, Saturday/Sunday, Aug. 24-25, 2013, Community page.
Headline of article I would put on the front page: “Couple celebrates 2,500th wedding anniversary” because error is similar to a double negative.
Part of article:
“Alex and Joan Musser of New Lisbon celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary with their seven children, family, friends and neighbors ...”
A 50th anniversary is the golden anniversary; therefore 50 X 50 = 2,500.
