Get educated about pipeline issues
The subject of the proposed Constitution Pipeline has been divided into separate issues in the course of debate. Environmental concerns, possible economic benefit and the impact the pipeline may have on our quality of life.
Economics, the environment and our quality of life are all interlinked. Take a look at the effect that pollutants have had on some of our rivers in the U.S. from the now non-existent manufacturing boom. We are now spending money to clean some of these rivers up. Many of these areas now have unsightly, decaying buildings and large numbers of people that are struggling economically. Did those businesses help these areas in terms of long-term stability? Of course not!
Companies such as Cabot and Williams are experts at pushing their agendas. Constitution LLC sending out letters to potentially affected landowners for the M route well after the FERC hearing was an example of the type of manipulation we can all expect. The letters were dated before the final comment periods to FERC, but received two days ago.
Some Delaware County supervisors recently expressed their support of the pipeline. Were polls taken of their respective constituents?
Finally, let’s not be naive about the possibility that the pipeline is really a part of an infrastructure for fracking. Those of us that are concerned need to get educated and inform our neighbors. Ask your town supervisors for answers. Write to our political leaders. Do not let pipeline people on your property, and do not sign anything. Check out the “Stop the Pipeline” website. Just because the pipeline is not on your property does not mean you will not be affected. Wake up!
