The Daily Star
---- — Adopting graves
is worthwhile work
I would like to thank The Daily Star for nominating me for being “an unsung hero.” What a pleasant surprise that was.
At first I thought it was a joke, but the reporter gave me all the information, and I realized she was telling me the truth, that I had been nominated. For the first time in a long, long time I felt good about myself and what I am trying to accomplish, and that is to get people, organizations, and clubs to adopt graves or a cemetery.
After my mom passed away, I suddenly noticed all the graves that had nothing on them, and it really bothered me. So my friend and I are up to 14 graves this year and will continue to add each year. I found out about a baby that just has a rock on his grave that was born the same year as me, and he has never had flowers on his grave; he does now and will as long as I am around.
What a feeling I get for honoring someone I don’t even know and showing them respect after they are gone. If everyone would just adopt one grave I would have accomplished my goal. You don’t have to spend a lot of money; just a simple plant or whatever your heart tells you.
Again I want to thank The Daily Star and the very nice reporter and her husband, for making me feel special one week of my life.
