I read with amusement Sheila Ross’ characterization of Sustainable Otsego’s platform as leaving its adherents “beholden to narrow special interests.” The chair of the Otsego County Republican Party knows full well that this phrase is code for the corrupting influence of big money. The truth, of course, is exactly the opposite.
The “special interests” that Sustainable Otsego addresses are the citizens of Otsego County — every one of them — and their rights to clean water, air and a healthy quality of life. It seems that Ross — “speaking for the GOP slate” — feels that these issues are beneath contempt, or irrelevant. They are obviously issues that the GOP candidates in Otsego County are unwilling, or uninterested, in pursuing, since they are evidently not “issues that are important to our county and the taxpayers.”
Thank you, Ms. Ross, for explaining exactly where the Otsego County GOP stands on the quality of life in our community.
