The Daily Star
---- — Chicken Little, the sky is not falling! However, the White House is trying to make us believe that regarding a 2 percent reduction in federal spending.
President Obama claimed our economy would slump and 750,000 jobs would be lost. In his press conference he said firefighters, policemen and first responders would be laid off. Wait a minute, those jobs are funded by local government!
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said illegal immigrants now in jail for crimes committed would be released because of lack of funding. Releasing them started before the budget cuts began.
Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar said some national parks would be closed and garbage would pile up at others.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood added airport traffic controllers would be fired, causing flight delays.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan said teachers would be laid off and joining the chorus, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack added meat inspectors would lose their jobs.
White House tours were discontinued because funding would not be available. (President Obama’s golf outing with Tiger Woods cost more than a year of White House tours.)
The federal government uses base-line budgeting, which means automatic increases in the budget every year. The proposed 2 percent cut is actually a reduction in the automatic increase. The government will have more money to spend than last year.
In the middle of this hype, Secretary of State John Kerry announced an additional $250 million for Egypt. We’re already giving it $1.4 billion for airplanes. But get this, $60 million is for Egyptian entrepreneurs. Yes, your taxes, my taxes and taxes on small U.S. businesses are going to Egyptian business! And, who knows where the money ends up.
What kind of leadership thinks up this stuff?
