The Daily Star
---- — The relationship between “peace and quiet” and “law and order” has suffered a severe breakdown in our “historic” Harpersfield. Our duly elected civil servants seemed to have placed their political ambitions ahead of the welfare of the constituents they are to serve.
For more than 45 years, our little cabin in the woods offered us a little “Eden” where we could enjoy a period of “peace and quiet” to refresh our soul before we again had to face the challenges of the daily grind. Now that we are retired, “peace and quiet” is even more important in our lives.
And now the devil comes into our little “Eden” riding on gut wrenching, screaming banshee, ear-piercing motorcycle noises. And that with the blessing of a free pass from our dearly elected!
If the goal is to make Harpersfield the motorcycle race track haven, it’s a terrible choice. OK, it’s on the far end of town and the majority of the Harpersfield citizens will never know this motorcycle track exists. But we are here and all we get is total disrespect of our civil rights and a total rejection of protection for our wildlife that brought so much pleasure and relaxation into our lives. Gone, all gone! Nothing left but NOISE! So much noise in fact that even our dear citizens in Davenport must endure and share the noise torture.
The real estate values have declined significantly in the areas affected by the NOISE. No tax abatement is offered. A plea for a review is drowned out by the silence of the self-important “in-group.”
Let’s bring some law and order sanity back to our “historic Harpersfield” before an ugly chapter will be recorded in the archives of the proud rural heritage.
