This is in regard to the story on April 4, “County seeks farmers’ input to update plan.”
In my opinion, the main problem with farming in the county is all the leeches that claim they want to help farmers and do the opposite. Soil and Water used to do cost-sharing with farmers to drain wetlands. Now these hypocrites want to create wetlands and have complete control over farmers. Just so they can keep their jobs; that is Scott Fickbohm’s main interest.
Brewery Ommegang doesn’t want farmers to benefit from gas drilling. It is all right if they take a lot of water, increase traffic and cause the destruction of a bridge. At $38 million in revenues and they claim to be such good neighbors, they could have paid for the whole bridge! Chris Harmon, Sustainable Otsego and Otsego 2000 tell us they support farmers but heaven forbid a farmer can sell his gas crop.
A few years ago in New Lisbon, Supervisor Bob Taylor and his liberal buddies spent $30,000 on a comprehensive plan that said it supported farming. Then they passed a road law that makes farmers outlaws if they use town roads more than five times a day.
If these people knew anything, they would leave farmers alone. I can remember how farming was in Otsego County before these people moved in. One of my best friends said it best, “The only farmers that will be left in the county will be grape, hop and pot.”
