Dan Buttermann is running for one of three vacant seats on the Oneonta School Board. Those of us in the Oneonta School District have the opportunity to elect Dan to this important position May 20. I have had the opportunity of speaking with Dan about issues that are critical to the success of our treasured educational programs.
Specifically, during his active campaign, he has offered his opinions and initiatives on the core curriculum, financing school programs, the importance of the arts and music and the value of a well-run sports program.
I have been impressed with Dan’s ability in discussing these issues in a balanced, thoughtful manner as he incorporates a variety of opinions into well-informed policies. Such a manner ensures that teachers will be able to teach and students will be able to learn in a supportive, creative environment. In addition, Dan is mindful of Albany’s responsibility to Oneonta as the author of a fair school financing formula that respects the taxpayer’s ability to pay.
Dan is about to complete training in “Leadership Otsego” and sees “Start Up New York” as an encouraging way of generating economic growth in our area. Participation in these two programs indicates Dan’s willingness for self-improvement. In my view, this desire for seizing the chance to remain current in programs that could enhance the quality of education in Oneonta, his thorough decision-making process, his understanding of finances, his firm belief in the value of an Oneonta education make Dan Buttermann worthy of your vote for School Board on May 20.
