In Your Opinion: Manor is well-worth saving

Manor is

well-worth saving

On Oct. 10, I underwent a total hip replacement and, after a few “bumps in the road,” entered the Manor in Cooperstown for two weeks of rehabilitation. I found the experience to be very positive on all levels. Everyone in the building, from custodial staff to administration, was helpful, willing to listen and able to give useful advice.

The demeanor of all with whom I came in contact was always confident and energetic. Anyone I passed in the hallway acknowledged me with a smile and “Hi, how are you doing?” The atmosphere was definitely one of healing energy.

The camaraderie among the staff was very evident. The nurses and nurses’ aides were competent and caring and I found the physical and occupational therapy staff to be very professional and capable in all aspects of their jobs. The facility itself was spotless and surfaces were regularly wiped clean and disinfected. The food was delicious and well-prepared by the kitchen staff.

The residents of the Manor are well-taken-care-of and many shared with me that, after being in other facilities, this was the best one that they had ever resided in.

I implore the Otsego County Board of Representatives to rethink its vote to sell the Manor. This facility is truly a special place and we, in Otsego County, are very fortunate to have it available to us either as a residence or a rehabilitation center.
