The Daily Star
---- — Writer should appreciate all that EMTs do
I am writing this letter even before I finish reading the rest of the paper and doing the puzzles. You might say I am very partial to all volunteer firefighters and the EMTs who venture out at all hours to help the sick and administer medical treatment, and/or fight to save someone’s home from a tragic fire.
Now I make reference to the letter in the Dec. 3 issue of The Daily Star, and more specifically the one written by Blair Mancuso.
Ponder these four scenarios.
Hypothetically, Mr. M has a 10-year-old son who suddenly is afflicted with a rare disease, and our generous firemen slow down traffic nearby to “use the boot” for collecting funds to help him pay for ballooning hospital and doctor bills.
Perhaps on a snowy frigid night in the middle of January, the son needs an emergency ride to the ER.
Maybe his son’s sister has fallen into the backyard swimming pool, and is not responsive.
Mr. M’s two children are playing with matches in their bedroom and the mattress is ablaze when he walks in to check on an unusual odor coming down the hall.
An adjustment of Mr. M’s priorities just might be an order of the day.
Lastly, when I was a member of the workforce and driving into town every day, I always left home five or six minutes earlier than necessary to accommodate getting there on time.
