Blame shooter, rather than victim|

The Daily Star

---- — I just got done reading the article in The Daily Star titled, “Experts warn: Stay safe in orange” in a Weekend paper. According to the article, “Although New York state law does not require hunters to wear bright orange, studies on the Environmental Conservation website say that hunters wearing blaze orange are seven times less likely to be injured than hunters who are not wearing orange.”

And, “During the past 10 years, not one person who was wearing hunter orange was mistaken for game and killed in New York, on the contrary, big-game hunters who were involved in firearm related incidents were not wearing hunter orange.”

OK, but how many were injured?!!

OK, this is where articles like this really fire me up. The writers of these kinds of articles are putting 100 percent of the blame for someone getting shot on the hunter NOT wearing orange!! EXCUSE ME — but isn’t one of the FIRST things taught in hunter education class to know your target and what’s beyond it?

In essence, what the DEC and other “experts” are saying is, “Hey, if it doesn’t have orange on, it’s OK to shoot! After all, he/she should have been wearing it.”

Here’s another question: Why is the responsibility being taken off the person doing the shooting and be shifted onto the person being shot at??? Last question; how many articles come out each year during hunting season where the shooter was quoted as saying, “I thought it was a deer”!!! Are you kidding me???
