Street Talk: May 9, 2011

Will the price of gasoline affect your travel plans this summer?

"Definitely. We have family in Buffalo and it will affect visiting. It's hard enough saving for a hotel and spending money. It's hard enough on a daily basis."

Erwin Vega, custodial worker, Oneonta.

"No. I don't travel that much, and around town what little I use doesn't bother me. If I do travel I use public transportation like buses or trains."

Sam Sandoli, substitute teacher, Oneonta.

"Yes, only because I'm a single mom and it's hard with one pay-check. My car is a six cylinder and it's definitely going to put a crimp in my summertime plans."

Michelle Cornish, teachers aid, Milford.

"Yes. We've already decided to stay closer to home and trips will be cut shorter."

Shelley Coughlin, childcare assistant director, Sauquoit.

"No. We have a dairy farm so we don't get away too often. It is hard running the tractors and machinery. My vacations consist of family events."

Diane Edwards, dairy farmer, Edmeston.

"Yes. It means staying home more. I'd like to buy a horse. I had a nice truck and I had to get something smaller. I couldn't afford to run it."

James Lum, camper technician, New Berlin.
