Newman Development good for city
As a center city resident and landlord, I too am concerned about the Newman Development.
I’m concerned that the quality of our city’s housing stock continues to decline. I’m concerned that some landlords lack the foresight to invest in their properties.
I’m concerned that tenants reside in properties that lack the esthetic and structural quality that they and our community deserve.
I’m saddened to learn that the Newman Development is the largest private development in the Oneonta area in the past 25 years.
I’m concerned that the Newman developers (whom I do not know) are characterized by some as “carpetbaggers.” I, for one, am proud that Oneonta has attracted outside investment for this significant project. Thank you!
I’m observant that those citizens who characterize the Newman developers as interlopers apparently didn’t have the vision to have seen the opportunity themselves. Certainly, some of these individuals have built significant personal wealth from real estate investments in Oneonta. Why is it that only an outsider appears to have the vision and willingness to make such an investment in Oneonta?
The Newman Development is good for Oneonta and its citizens, both permanent and transient. Yes, the investment may have some short-term impact on all of us. Progress cannot occur otherwise.
Plain and simple, the Newman Development represents competition for us center-city landlords. And competition is good. It’s the “Law of the Marketplace.” It works. It’s a good law.
