More info needed on pump station

I would like to thank Chris Hammond for his letter to the editor in the May 28 edition of The Daily Star in which he revealed the purpose of the collection of heavy industrial machines in Colliersville that I have wondered about for some time. Now I and other readers know what the purpose is: to pump untold millions of gallons from the Susquehanna through five- to six-foot wide pipes so that extremely heavy trucks can haul water to fracking sites all around the county.

It seems that such an impending event as this deserves much more public scrutiny on behalf of the citizens in our area who will be impacted. Many questions need to be asked: Who decides the amount of water that can be taken? How many other pump stations on the river are planned? What about inevitable droughts, such as last summer when water shortage meant city lawns could not be watered? Threat to fish?

Perhaps The Daily Star could do some investigative reporting about the planned pump station and current state regulations about water extraction from the Susquehanna so that its readers can be better informed about what might happen to them if industrial fracking is permitted.
