Schools honored for 'embracing' veterans

At SUNY Cobleskill, the Student Veteran Association is a student-run organization with a mission to increase access for veterans into the college while providing them with guidance, mentoring and student services.

SVA has also implemented programs over the past year, including raising more than $500 and offering community service toward flood relief and aid for local veterans, Wreaths Across America, Hearts of Hope and Veteran’s Day celebrations, a college release said. During the academic year, the SVA will host fitness events that will invite campus and Schoharie County veterans to attend and develop camaraderie.

A Veteran Memorial Plaza at SUNY Cobleskill, dedicated April 26, honors veterans who have served and is the first symbolic representation of those who have served in the military and have been a part of the local community.

The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding, releases said. The website, at, features the list and tools to help military students find the best school to suit them.

Victory Media, based in Pittsburgh, is a veteran-owned small business that has been serving the military community since 2001.
