Good luck hunting bear in Adirondacks|
A couple of weeks ago, a friend asked me where he should go to hunt bears in the Adirondacks. I told him he would be better off staying home, but he was rather insistent.

Remember to play it safe this hunting season
It's hard to believe that bow season starts next week, on the first of October. I'm not sure what the hurry seems to be. Heck, on Tuesday I saw a small buck standing along one of the county roads that was still in velvet. Last week, a friend of mine watched five nice bucks still running together in a bachelor group. But as I think about it, it would be nice to have some fresh venison on the grill.

People make hiking more interesting
I hesitate to write more about my Mt. Marcy climb, but some things about the hike are still lingering in my head. Those "things" are the people you meet along the trail.

West Canada Creek should be on your list
This past Labor Day weekend, we returned to the West Canada Creek Campground outside of Poland. It's a great place to go and just a little more than an hour from home.

Conservatory a great place to lose yourself
The other night, Pat and I relaxed in our hot tub just off the deck in the backyard. It was dark except for some light streaming down from the yard light several feet away. Stars sparkled in constellations dreamed up ages ago by men with vivid imaginations and too much time on their hands.

You never know what you'll see on a hike
Last week, I told you about a little girl who climbed Mt. Washington. Since then, many people have inquired about Izzy's age. I didn't mention it in the story because I had titled the article "A 10 Year Old's Mt. Washington Climb." But the headline was changed, so her age never made it to print.

It's easy to get up for big climb
"Wow!" Izzy exclaimed as she and her grandfather drove along New Hampshire's Route 16. The mountain loomed before them.

Some ants can be a
royal pain
The other day my cousin emailed me some information on an insect that was new to me â€" the lionant.

Brook trout have made a comeback
For the eighth time in the last nine years, the record for catching the largest brook trout in New York has been broken. On May 16, a fisherman from Mayfield caught a 6-pound, 22.5-inch brook trout in Silver Lake in the southern Adirondacks. Wow!
