Conservatory a great place to lose yourself
The other night, Pat and I relaxed in our hot tub just off the deck in the backyard. It was dark except for some light streaming down from the yard light several feet away. Stars sparkled in constellations dreamed up ages ago by men with vivid imaginations and too much time on their hands.

You never know what you'll see on a hike
Last week, I told you about a little girl who climbed Mt. Washington. Since then, many people have inquired about Izzy's age. I didn't mention it in the story because I had titled the article "A 10 Year Old's Mt. Washington Climb." But the headline was changed, so her age never made it to print.

Brook trout have made a comeback
For the eighth time in the last nine years, the record for catching the largest brook trout in New York has been broken. On May 16, a fisherman from Mayfield caught a 6-pound, 22.5-inch brook trout in Silver Lake in the southern Adirondacks. Wow!

Catskills are big on family adventures
I have a choice when I leave my driveway in search of adventure. If I go left, I am heading toward the Adirondacks. A right will take me to the Catskills. Each is unique in its own way.

Lightning is beautiful but deadly, so be careful

Spider webs are part of nature's fine-art collection
There are so many beautiful, unique and wonderful things in nature. It may be magnificent waterfalls cascading down over tall cliffs from an emerald forest. To others, it's a little, tan fawn with white spots as it suckles from its mother in the tall grass on wobbly legs. But one of the most unique things in nature is a spider's web.

Restrictions on antlers a big deal
Recently, a number of people have been asking me what's going to happen during this fall's deer season with the three-point antler restriction. There have been rumors that the entire Southern Tier will have those restrictions this year.
