Oneonta record stores, like shops across the country, are selling more compact discs than albums these days as the LP quickly revolves into obsolescence.

Andrew McNichol, assistant manager at Music For You at Southside Mall in Oneonta, said his store is selling five times as many CDs. To keep up with the demand, McNichol, who orders all the music, said the store has five times more CDs than LPs in stock.

Although Suzanne Boccio, co-owner of Village Music on Main Street in Oneonta, could not give an exact figure, she too said that her store is selling more CDs.

“They sound better, are more convenient and the manufacturers are cutting back on albums. We’re carrying fewer numbers of albums and fewer titles ourselves,” she said.

Figures released by the Recording Industry Association of America show that in 1985 the CD sold 22.6 million units nationwide compared to 167 million for the LP.

Mayor Albert S. Nader announced Thursday night that he will not seek the Republican nomination for the assembly seat to be vacated by Otsego County Assemblyman Paul L. Talbott at the end of this year.

Mr. Nader, who had previously stated that he was “seriously considering” tossing his hat into the ring, gave loyalty to the people of Oneonta as the chief reason for his decision not to run.

Aspirants to the Republican candidacy are Richfield Town Supervisor Burrill House, Morris Town Supervisor Guy Rathbun, Cooperstown attorney Scott E. Greene and Kenneth Petersen of West Laurens, former president of the Otsego County Farm Bureau. All have announced their candidacies and begun campaigns.

On the Democratic side, only one man has announced his candidacy. Oneonta Third District Supervisor Jack Ranieri this week said he would make a third run for the assembly seat.

Mr. Ranieri was defeated by Mr. Talbott in 1960 and 1962.
