HARTWICK — The children of Hartwick will have a new recreation area, a playground in the center of the village on South Street.
Oneonta Oil and Fuel Company, Inc., of 7 Dietz St., Oneonta, made the Town of Hartwick an outright gift of its property on South Street, the site of the Harry Perry Garage premises there.
Oneonta Oil and Fuel owned the property since February 1945 and has been leasing the premises to Harry Perry. The property had been used as a gas station for the sale of the products of Oneonta Fuel and Oil Company, Inc., since that time. The deed was forwarded to Chester J. Winslow Jr., Attorney for the Town of Hartwick, and was received over the weekend.
The Hartwick Town Board at a previous meeting had approved a resolution to accept the gift and to raze the building and grade the grounds.
Town Supervisor William Powers said that the Board is very appreciative of the gift and hopes to eventually clean up the site, plant some shrubs and otherwise prepare it for recreational use.
