Dec. 26, 1963
Christmas mailings in Oneonta trailed 1962 by 10 percent on Dec. 18; but they caught up and are expected to slightly exceed last year.
Oneonta Postmaster Samuel J. Bertuzzi said Christmas afternoon that a last minute rush over the weekend and the first two days of Christmas week pushed mailings equal to — or slightly above — 1962 totals.
Back on Dec. 18, when Mr. Bertuzzi pointed to decreases in both regular and parcel post mailings, he warned observers that such a rush might pile in the last minute.
“It happened,” he said.
However, Oneonta’s postmaster said yesterday that everything was “under control” at the local post office.
He expressed his appreciation to patrons of the local post office for their consideration in early mailings, saying, “it made it much easier for us.”
