COOPERSTOWN — Otsego County Tourism Bureau officials are hoping to greet visitors with a high tech information system this year.
Tourists are due in Otsego starting in April and officials plan to have the system in place when they arrive.
Want information on events scheduled for the coming week? Press the right computer key and a list will appear on the screen. Want to know about a particular attraction? Press another key and more details will appear.
Want the information recorded? No problem. The system comes with its own printer.
The system is called the Locator Travel Guide System. It is part of a network under development by IEX Communications, Inc., which is run by Bob Fields based in Frankfort, a Utica suburb.
The Otsego County Tourism Bureau and Fields have agreed to have two of the units placed in Otsego County. One will be at the tourist information center at the Interstate 88 rest stop in Unadilla. The other will be in Cooperstown at a location yet to be determined, Fields said.

SIDNEY — Sidney Central School’s physical education department Tuesday night got an unexpected accolade from Lacrosse Coach Robert Cullen of Cornell University’s physical education division.
School superintendent Robert Cody read to the Board of Education a letter from Coach Cullen, which commented:
“I have occasion to visit most of the high schools in New York State outside of the metropolitan area.
“Last week I was in Sidney. I observed two gym classes and a study hall. I could not help to tell you how favorably impressed I was with a remarkable ‘esprit de corps’ and the self-discipline evidenced by the student body. It is a real tribute to you and your staff. Incidentally, I have never written a letter of this nature before.”Step Back in Time features news items from The Daily Star 25 and 50 years ago.
