An Oneonta Boy Scout Troop has received a message from Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, widow of the late President John F. Kennedy, thanking the troop for the letter of sorrow and sympathy they sent to her after the President’s assassination.
The brief message explained that Mrs. Kennedy is “deeply appreciative of your sympathy and grateful for your thoughtfulness.”
The troop that sent the letter to Mrs. Kennedy is Troop 27 of Valleyview School and is led by William Schaffer.
Mr. Schaffer said yesterday that the Troop held a memorial service for the dead president and followed the service with a note to Mrs. Kennedy last fall.
He said the gracious reply from Mrs. Kennedy is “something the troop can treasure.”Step Back in Time features news items from The Daily Star 25 and 50 years ago.
