Hartwick College has announced that starting this fall all students will be housed in college residence halls.

Ralph O. Clarkson, dean of students, suggests that those who are currently providing private housing for either male or female students should not enter into contracts with students for facilities beyond September 1.

The new policy is enabled by the near-completion of a 258-man residence hall which will house upperclass men.

While sorority and fraternity houses will still be utilized, the overall purpose of the new policy is to establish a campus-centered student body.

“Health, safety, and welfare of the student body is one of the foremost concerns of the college,” said Dean Clarkson.

“Moreover, there is a substantial improvement in support of campus activities and continued development of effective study habits when the residence environment is coordinated directly under the leadership of student and college personnel.”
