Esther Walling, whose penchant for crazy hats and big earrings is coupled with an almost uncontrollable drive to help other people, with leave the WDOS staff after 12 years.

Mrs. Walling, well known for her “Women Today” program, will move to Peekskill where her husband, Francis, will manager a dairy.

During her radio career, Mrs. Walling has interviewed a host of persons — some were big names, others neighbors in the area.

The celebrities she’s interviewed have run the gamut. Personalities such as Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, news analyst Cecil Brown, pianist George Shering, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr. (when he ran for governor), Jazz-man Louis (Satchmo) Armstrong and Sen. Jacob Javits have shared the mike with her.

Mrs. Walling has been more than a radio personality for the Oneonta area.

She’s been active in community affairs and served with the Fox Hospital Guild, Cancer Society, Business Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Oneonta Clothing Guild. But she’s also worked closely with the Red Cross blood drives and Health Association work.
