MT. VISION — The Mt. Vision United Methodist Church is concluding its 150th anniversary celebration Sunday, Nov. 22, with an afternoon service featuring a talk by the Rev. Charles Marks of Ithaca, who grew up in Mt. Vision.

The day will include the morning worship service, a covered dish dinner, special music and reminiscing.

The program will be the culmination of a series of anniversary events. The church observed Heritage Sunday in April where members of 50 years and over were honored. Camp Meeting Day was held in June at Horace Harrison’s camp on Arnold Lake.

The church was formed when members of a Methodist congregation, who met on Bowe Hill, east of Mt. Vision, and another Methodist congregation, which met on Methodist Hill, west of Mt. Vision, gathered in the schoolhouse in Jacksonville (now Mt. Vision) Nov. 29, 1837, and voted to build a church. The certificate of incorporation was signed that day.

In 1838 the lot was purchased for $30 and the church was built for a total cost of $950. In 1867 the building was raised and a basement constructed. Membership reached 115.

Membership is now 171, with average worship attendance about 35.

COOPERSTOWN — Parents and friends Tuesday began paying visits to schools in the Cooperstown Central School system to observe at first hand how their children are taught to better cope with challenges in the modern world.

The high school started this year with the new language laboratory. Miss Kathryn Lee, French teacher explained that the laboratory is greatly enjoyed by the students. It encourages faster progress in learning a new foreign language, she stated.

The room is equipped with a console, head-sets and microphones. The teacher is able to listen, while the students listen and can hear themselves repeating from the tape.

American Education Week is being observed with schools open for visits.
