GRAND GORGE — Patricia Ferris, an instructor of Health Occupations at the Northern Catskills Occupational Center in Grand Gorge, was recognized as advisor of the year for New York State at the National Conference for Health Occupational Students of American (H.O.S.A.) held in Atlanta, Ga., last June.

The Health Occupational Students of America is a leadership club. One of the largest service projects sponsored by this group is the blood screening project held at the Northern Catskills Occupational Center each fall.

Last year, the Health Occupational Students co-sponsored a variety of fund raising activities with the Future Farmers of America at N.C.O.C., which resulted in a benefit check of $1,000 toward the Children’s Miracle Network fund for the Albany Medical Center Hospital in upstate New York.

Ferris is a dedicated professional with a strong commitment to community services. Through her strong leadership to the students and H.O.S.A., her students have developed great pride in themselves and their program.
