Les Foster, Oneonta town supervisor, favors a zoning change on Pony Farm Road to allow the Industrial Park to expand.

Foster’s comments come just as he received the results of a survey showing that more than half of the area’s residents also favor a change in zone from agricultural to industrial. The mail-in survey was conducted by the Otsego County Industrial Development Agency last month.

Town officials are expected to discuss the issue further this week at a town board meeting. Foster said he wants to schedule a special meeting June 21 with the residents to find out if they really want to change the zone.

“I think that we have to look at it,” Foster said. “What they (the IDA) brought us is that there just isn’t much industrial property in the town anymore.”

Though Foster said he was not pleased that the IDA did not consult the town board before it embarked on the survey, he said he is glad the issue was researched.

George R. Waddington, Oneonta High School social studies teacher for 19 years, director of adult education for about 17 years and OHS tennis coach for 11 years, has resigned.

He has accepted a position on the SUCO Bugbee Campus School faculty as social studies teacher for eighth and ninth grades

In a letter to Mr. Waddington the Oneonta School Board accepted “with regret” his resignation from “social studies in Oneonta High School effective June 30.”

“We regard very highly the 19 years of dedicated service which you have rendered to our schools and the youth of our community,” the letter continues.
